“Whether I’m welcome or not” raps Bijaan on the opening bar of his debut single, “Jungle”, a line that immediately sets the tone for an artist unafraid to claim his space. Bijaan is a Calgary-based MC whose artistry bridges contents and cultures and has already captured the attention of major DSPs, key industry festivals, and fellow hip-hop artists and producers. Canadian born, with roots in East Africa and India, he brings a distinctly global perspective to hip-hop. Produced by the Polaris Prize-nominated hip-hop heavyweight Producer, Junia-T, “Jungle” is a bold exploration of identity, unapologetic self-belief, and belonging, anchored by Bijaan’s sharp lyricism and a unique, commanding delivery. From releasing mixtapes in high school, all the way to performing at major Canadian festivals and showcases such as NXNE, The JUNOs, Sled Island, Do It For The Culture, and Aurorapalooza, Bijaan has carved out his place as a rising voice in Canada’s hip-hop scene. Blending introspection with bravado, while taking inspiration from his varied cultural roots, he stands at the forefront of a new generation of artists redefining what it means to be global in hip-hop.
