Sustained user engagement is critical to the success of digital health interventions, particularly for chronic and long-term conditions that require patients to self-manage care over extended periods. But the prevailing design paradigm - adapted from consumer technology - often assumes continuous use as the marker of engagement. Real-world evidence demonstrates health behaviors are inherently intermittent. This presentation shows why & how “designing for intermittent use” is an essential strategy for improving user engagement and health outcomes.
